Prowl and Side Burn from the 2001 Robots In Disguise release. I have badmouthed the Car Robots line a lot here, and a ton of that is because the cartoon was just so very, VERY disappointing. We went from epic action in Beast Wars to high concept (if somewhat preachy) art in Beast Machines to… slapstick and bad dubbing.
However, we also went back to vehicles. And I can’t deny it, the Autobot Brothers from Car Robots were really very well designed. You could see how well Transformers had evolved from the classic G1 “Bricks” to the Generation 2 toys with some levels of complex posability, to the fantastic designs of Beast Wars, to these brilliant toys.
Who… are still based on characters that made me want to punch my television.
As a side note, Prowl was the first toy I ever let my boy play with. Dawn was surprised that Tristan survived after he popped off the door.
I’ve mentioned that I’m displeased with the Robots In Disguise Megatron, who was designed as the new Sixshot, but the “Super Posability” actually hurt him severely. (Plus, selling a Megatron without the Bucket Hat is grounds for legal action, or at least should be.) So, hey - I’ve got a toy with a broken door, a toy in perfect shape, and a Megatron I have issues with. Might as well do a big lot sale on eBay.
